Paul M. MehringAfter more than 32 successful years with DaimlerChrysler (DC), Paul Mehring retired in 2002 continuing as Chairman of the ITEA Board, as member of the high-level Information Society Technologies Advisory Group to the European Commission (ISTAG) and as an advisor to DC.

At the end of 1999, Mehring relocated back from the US to Berlin to become head of Telematics Strategy and Programmes in DC Research and Technology. He was also named Chairman of the Board of the EUREKA strategic initiative in Embedded and Distributed Software (ITEA) in February 2000 and member of ISTAG in January 2001.

In 1994, Mehring became founding President and CEO of DC Research and Technology North America and first Director of the Research and Technology Center (RTC) in Palo Alto, California, established in 1995.

Prior to moving to the U.S., Mehring held a variety of positions in Research and Technology for Daimler-Benz AG, including head of the Systems Technologies Lab in Berlin.

In the early 90's, Mehring spent a sabbatical at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, California, working on massive parallel systems and the future of computing and communications.

Mehring began his career in January 1970 at the AEG Research Institute in Berlin in the Simulation Laboratory where his early work involved digital continuous systems simulation, with a focus on power electronic systems. He became head of the Simulation Laboratory in 1976, overseeing continuous and logic simulation.

In 1984, he was named head of the System and Information Technology Department, where he oversaw the department's initial work on artificial intelligence, parallel processing and neural networks.

Mehring holds a diploma in mathematics with a minor in physics from the Free University of Berlin.
