He started his career as Research Engineer in the Automation Research Centre of ‘Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (Sup'Aéro)' where he also was assistant Professor. In 1970 he was elected as Manager of the Automation Research Centre and elevated Professor at Sup'Aéro. His field of interest was (and has been all along) digital process automation for hard real time systems and systems with high safety and dependability. In 1975, he stopped teaching and moved to a company of the Compagnie Générale d'Electricité (CGE) group (now called Alcatel) where he occupied diverse managerial positions. During this period Daclin has been active in the digital automation of systems for Defence applications, oil and gas drilling, extraction transport and refining, logistics, railways and road transport systems. In 1993 he joined the Corporate Research Centre of Alcatel, where he, as Deputy Director, was in charge of the software department. Eric Daclin was one of the starters of the ITEA programme in 1998 and was ITEA's very first Vice-Chairman. He was instrumental in getting the programme of the ground and in taking it along the road towards becoming the premier pan-European R&D programme for software-intensive systems. In addition, he has set standards of excellence for the ITEA Vice-Chairmanship. End 2002 he stepped down as ITEA Vice-Chairman. His main activities for the ITEA programme since his Vice-Chairmanship are author of some strategic ITEA documents and coordinator of the Core Team activities of the ITEA Technology Roadmap 2 edition. Eric Daclin has authored books and articles on automation. |
